Celebrating Davines Sustainable Beauty Month

Green is the New Black

With global warming on the rise and an apparent lack of responsibility from major corporate polluters, many small businesses are starting to take matters into their own hands. By combining business savvy and environmental consciousness, Italian beauty company Davines has created a worldwide green movement in the salon industry. Saving the planet just got a lot more glamorous.

Sustainable Beauty Month

Sustainable Beauty Month began in 2010 as Sustainable Beauty Day, first held in Italy. Developed by Davines, SBD was a way for businesses – more specifically, salons – to give back to the environment and promote environmental consciousness. Davines wanted to create a synergy between business and the environment, with concrete, positive results for the planet and salons. Soon, SBD was celebrated in many countries all over the world, including France and Canada. Since it has become an international event lasting a whole month! Sustainable Beauty Month has reached the U.S. and many salons are taking action.

To participate in Sustainable Beauty Month, a salon will offer a promotion where all proceeds go to benefit socio-environmental projects and/or organizations. Each year, target goals were set and incredibly exceeded each time. In 2011, Canada and the United States raised over $25,000 and $62,000 in 2012 by 80 salons!

For the past several years, Davines has partnered with the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation to plant fruit trees in developing countries. Currently, Davines is committed to helping fund the planting of 10,000 trees in El Salvador. It is one of the most deforested countries in the world with more than 46% of the rural population living in poverty. The average cost of planting and maintaining one tree is $100, or about 4 large bottles of Davines’ award-winning OI Shampoo.

What We’re Doing

Barron’s London Salon is proud to partner with Davines and other eco-friendly salons across the globe for Sustainable Beauty Month 2016. In celebration of Sustainable Beauty Month, BLS is offering all Davines products for 15% off! Not only will you be entered to win an actual fruit tree, but also all proceeds will be donated to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. With the money raised, fruit trees will be planted in impoverished villages in different parts of the world.

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation is “an international nonprofit charity dedicated to planting fruitful trees and plants to alleviate world hunger, combat climate change, strengthen communities, and improve surrounding air, soil, and water.”

What You Can Do

You don’t need to use eco-friendly products, like Davines’, to take “green” action in our beauty regiments and our daily lives.

All those empty bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion and body wash are all recyclable! The average American has 8 products in plastic bottles in the bathroom. If we all took steps to recycle these bottles, the effect would have an instrumental effect as recycling water bottles. Simply check out the product bottle for the well known recyclable logo (a triangle of three arrows), rinse it out, and toss it into the blue bin. This includes your metal aerosol cans, as well – just make sure to throw them in with your empty soda cans and other aluminum products.

If you’re not sure about whether you can recycle your tube of hair gel, check to see if that company offers a recycling program for their products. You would be surprised as many do! Garnier® has partnered with recycling behemoth TerraCycle® so you can send them your used shampoo caps, conditioner caps, hair gel tubes and caps, hair spray triggers, hair paste caps, lip balm tubes and caps, soap dispensers and tubes, body wash caps, lotion dispensers and caps, lipstick cases, lip gloss tubes, mascara tubes, eye shadow cases, bronzer cases, foundation packaging, powder cases, eyeliner cases, eyeliner pencils, eyeshadow tubes, concealer tubes, concealer sticks and lip liner pencils. Basically, almost every beauty product you own and the kitchen sink can be sent to TerraCycle® to be recycled.

If that seems like a lot of work to save the environment, simply switch to eco-friendly products with biodegradable recipes and containers. While the containers might be a bit more difficult to find, there are many natural products (like Davines) that are not only great for your hair, skin, and body but also the environment.

Lastly, help spread the word and awareness of Sustainable Beauty Month. Share a picture with the Davines mascot (pictured below) on your social media with the hashtag #ISustainBeauty. The androgynous mascot represents all genders, races, and cultures and serves as a reminder of the unity of our own beauty with the natural beauty of the environment. Ultimately, we are a part of nature. The same care and time we take into beautifying ourselves for our own fulfillment can and should be applied to our only home – the earth.

A Closer Look at Holiday Hairstyles

It’s that time of year again – time to start planning for the holidays and everything that comes with them. It’s time to decide whose house you’ll be hitting first on Thanksgiving – Grandma’s or Aunt Tillie’s. It’s time to start thinking about what you’ll be getting your impossible-to-shop-for best friend for Christmas. It’s time to decide on the menu for your annual Christmas party.

Most importantly of all, it’s time to start planning your holiday look. First impressions are forever, as are family photos, so it’s important to make sure your style is on point. This is especially the case when it comes to your hair. However, it’s one thing to know that your tresses are due for an update before the holidays are officially upon us. Deciding which looks will be the right fit for the multitude of settings that come with every holiday season is another.

Here we’ll take a closer look at some of the hottest options out there today when it comes to holiday looks. Whether this season will find you meeting your boyfriend’s parents for the first time, hosting your very first Thanksgiving, or taking in a downtown holiday festival on the arm of your dream date, we’ve got you covered.

When looking to improve their appearance or put together the ideal look for a given occasion, people don’t always remember to consider their hair. They spend months of their time, not to mention hundreds of dollars, looking for the perfect outfit for that party or family get-together. They’re willing to live on lettuce and grapefruit for weeks to make sure their weight is just so.

However, they’ll wear their hair the same old way they always do, missing out on their best opportunity to really knock ‘em dead. But what’s so special about hair, anyway, and why does how you wear yours matter so much? Let us count the ways.

Put Your Best Face Forward

A great hairstyle can flatter your face, bringing out your best features, your unique coloring, the sparkle in your eyes, and your smile. However, an unflattering hairstyle can do the exact opposite. The thing is, we all know a bad hairstyle when we see it on someone else, but it’s a lot harder to evaluate our own choices. Research your unique face shape to determine which styles will help you make the most of it. You can also ask a professional stylist for suggestions.

Let Your Personality Shine Through

Your hairstyle is also the ultimate way to let your unique personality shine through. Are you fun and spontaneous – the life of the party? Try a daring and ultra-chic asymmetrical cut or pixie. Are you the elegant beauty queen in your circle of friends? Some long, sexy layers and perfectly executed highlights could suit you perfectly. Are you the rebel that prefers to stand apart from the crowd? How about a shocking color or an edgy cut that’s just as daring as you are?

Make The Most Of Your Hair Style

If you’re someone that absolutely loathes their natural hair texture, you’re far from alone. It’s common for people with straight hair to wish they had a crown full of curls instead, or for curly-tops to spend hours with a death grip on their flat iron. The right hairstyle can help you learn to love, appreciate, and accentuate the gorgeous natural texture you were born with. Not only will you look to-die-for, but you’ll save yourself a fortune in time, energy, and money as well.

The right hairstyle isn’t just about the right cut and color, either. How you choose to wear your hair and coordinate your choices with your lifestyle, your outfit, your different settings, and so on is equally as important. This is doubly the case when it really counts, as with the holidays.

It’s something that strikes terror into the heart of even the coolest, most collected woman – meeting the parents over dinner. Obviously, you want to make a good impression. You want them to see you as classy, but not stuffy – friendly, but not frivolous. However, it can be difficult to determine which looks make that impression. If you’re meeting them over the holidays, then looking just right becomes even more important.

Yes, it’s the holiday season, but don’t assume this means that you have to be dressed to the nines. Instead, aim for put-together and comfortable. Choose a modest but pretty outfit that definitely makes you look like you cared enough to make a good impression, but stops well short of fussy. A nice blouse paired with a skirt and flats or boots is a good idea. Keep your make-up natural. For your hair, try one of these clean, simple styles:

An up-do is always a good choice for meeting the parents, but today’s version is more comfortable and casual. Smooth your hair back from your face and secure it at the nape of your neck firmly, but not too tightly. Arrange hair into a secure, but loose chignon or bun. Tease individual pieces of hair to create a “tousled” look for your bun. Be sure to leave some face-framing tendrils free as well.

Prefer to wear your hair down? Try parting your hair just off center and using a medium barrel curling iron to add body and waves to one-inch sections of hair. Finger style for the perfect elegant-casual look.

Looking for something somewhere in between? Pull the front half of your hair back and secure at the crown in a high pony, while leaving the rest down. Add a festive hair band or barrette if you like.

Whether you’ve been happily married for years or just started seeing someone new, it goes without saying that date nights are a cause for excitement. And a holiday date night? Well, it only makes sense to seize the opportunity to look extra festive. You want your special someone to look your way and feel instantly lucky to be out on the town with you.

Whether you’re hitting the stadium to catch a sporting event or stepping out for a meal at that brand new five-star restaurant that just opened up across town, holiday date nights are occasions where you want to look extra gorgeous. These options are sure to be perfect for whatever the night may bring your way.

A sleek, smooth bun that sits high up on the head is the quintessential elegant look. Plus, it’s perfect for any occasion, goes with any outfit, and looks good on everyone. Keep your bun looking shiny and perfect all night long by stocking your purse with a travel-sized can of hairspray and a few bobby pins to wrangle strays.

The asymmetrical look isn’t just for short cuts and edgy bobs, anymore. It’s also all the rage for date night hairstyles. Part your hair on one side and twist your hair into an elegant chignon on the opposite side. Secure at the nape of the neck. Add a pretty hair accessory for an extra festive touch.

This sexy, carefree look is the perfect way to show off your beautiful tresses and definitely look like you’re ready to hit the town, without also looking like you spent all day in front of the mirror fussing over your hair. Dry your hair about 80% of the way, braid it, and spritz with a bit of hairspray. Dry it the rest of the way, and unbraid. Instant “cool girl” waves that will have you turning heads all night.

You need a look that’s sleek and put together, but fun at the same time. Something that will impress Mom and Grandma, but still make you look cool in front of your sisters and cousins. Try the following on for size.

This gorgeous hairstyle is proof positive that ponytails aren’t just for lazy Netflix Sundays with the girls. Brush your hair over to one side and secure with a covered rubber band. Wind one strand of hair around the band to hide it. Style the ponytail into a cascade of gentle waves with a large barrel curling iron.

Apply volumizing mousse to clean hair and blow it dry. Use electric rollers to create big, beautiful curls and waves. Allow rollers to cool completely before removing, and then brush hair gently while holding your head upside down. Smooth into place and lock in the style with a flexible hold hairspray.

A pretty braid is just perfect for Thanksgiving with the fam. Pull the braid over one shoulder for a contemporary look, or go for a sophisticated French braid if you have the skills. If you’d like to try something different, go for a milkmaid style braid. Pretty, elegant, and effortlessly chic!

If you’re wondering whether or not your hair needs a bit of extra TLC before the holidays officially get here, you’re not alone. This is the time of year that finds many style-conscious women heading to the salon to help transition their beachy summer hair to something richer that looks ready to take on fall. Common requests that you may want to consider include the following:

Not everyone keeps the same exact hair color all year round. Crisp, bright highlights that look awesome throughout the spring and summer can look out of place once the temperature drops. Fiery reds that were fantastic on the beach may be better off retired in favor of a richer, more subtle russet now that the leaves are starting to turn.

Consider making an appointment with a professional colorist to help you subtly update your color or decide on a new look that’s not too drastic. Professional salons can treat you to benefits like custom blended color and an extensive palette of shades to put even the largest drugstore selection to shame. Plus, with the holidays on the way, you can’t afford to look anything less than flawless. The last thing you want to deal with is a major color snafu right before the family is about to arrive for Thanksgiving dinner!

Hair looking a little ragged after a long summer of swimming and lazy afternoons spent soaking up the sun? Got a few split ends or limp layers that need to be tended to before holiday photo season begins? You’ve got an excellent reason to hit the salon.

High end professional salons can treat you to clean lines, perfect layers, and superior cuts that will have everyone asking who your stylist is. Holidays are better when your mom spends them bragging about your sense of style, instead of criticizing it.

Summer is a time when lots of us play with funky new colors and crazy experimental highlights. However, the last thing you want going into the holiday season is a head full of chlorine-corrupted hair or a wonky drug store color that no longer seems like the good idea it seemed like, last month.

Color correction should always be performed by a seasoned professional for best results. A professional colorist can correct even the most hopeless hair mishaps, so never fear.

Once your cut and color are once again on point, you can rest assured that your fabulous holiday hairstyles will look their absolute best. Explore the possibilities today! The holidays await.

2015 Fall and Winter Hair Trend Guide

Whether we like it or not, summer is winding down and a new season is upon us. It’s time to trade out your swimsuits for sweaters and get ready for cooler temperatures. But the fall and winter seasons bring more than just lower degrees. It can be a time for change.
This can be a great time for you to change up your hairstyle or color. If you’ve been thinking about a new do, let this be the time to “do” it. Whether you want a complete overhaul for your hair, or just a soft and subtle change, now is the time to take the leap. A new season can mean a new you.

The Lob

The Lob

The lob has become one of the biggest hair trends of the year and if you thought it was going to go away after summer, you thought wrong. The lob is a longer version of a bob. This is a great hairstyle for those who want to change up their hair but don’t want to go quite as drastic as a bob. It also happens to be very trendy at the moment.
There are many different variations of the lob that you can try. You can add bangs to the lob if you would like or, if you have naturally curly hair, you can add waves to it. The great thing about sporting a lob is that it is still long enough to be worn in a ponytail or bun, but short enough that it shouldn’t take you hours blow-drying and straightening. The lob does require some maintenance, though. If you don’t keep it trimmed, it can grow out quickly to a mid-torso length.
The lob is normally considered to be perfect when it lies at the collar bone and, to keep it that length, you will probably need to see your hairdresser about every 6 weeks. If you need inspiration for a lob, look to celebrities like Karlie Kloss, Taylor Swift, or Kristen Bell.

Cropped Cuts

Cropped Cuts

If you are daring enough, one trend for fall is the short pixie cut. This is definitely a dramatic hair move, but if you want to change up your hair and have been thinking about cutting off your tresses, this is going to be a huge hit this fall and winter.
To achieve this look, your hair should be no longer than your ears. Besides that, it is yours to play around with. If you want it to be edgier, keep a little extra length in the front that you can tousle. This hairstyle is great for those who want something extremely easy to wear. But it should be kept in mind that this hairstyle might not be for everyone. Those with extremely curly hair might not like this look, and you should remember that since it is too short for a ponytail or bun, you are going to have to style it every day. Also, it is going to take some maintenance to keep it at the perfect length. You probably will need to see your hairstylist at least every 4-6 weeks. Not sure yet? Look at stars like Shailene Woodley or Lily Collins for some pixie inspiration.

Voluminous Waves

Voluminous Waves

Perhaps on the other side of the spectrum from the pixie are the always-trendy voluminous waves. This is one hairstyle that is normally always in for women, and it is easy to see why. The long, luscious waves add a huge layer of drama to the face, and they add sex appeal.
This hairstyle is great for almost any type of hair or face shape. It is important to remember, though, that with more hair normally comes more time spent styling it. But, on the other hand, you won’t need to be making as many hair appointments with this style. Celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Sophia Vergara, and Nina Dobrev all love the look and can help give you inspiration.

Bold Center Part

Bold Center Part

Maybe you have commitment issues, and you just can’t imagine changing your hair that much. If you don’t want to cut all your hair off, but still want to try something new, consider the middle part. For a while the middle part was considered a hair mistake, but in the last few months, the middle part has made a comeback.
The middle part can be a great way to spice up your hair and change it up without doing anything permanent. This is a great trend to try out if you don’t like a lot of change because, if you decide you don’t like it, you can always go back to your original part. If you need some help with this, look to stars like Lauren Conrad, Jennifer Aniston, and Kim Kardashian, who are all big fans of the middle part.

A lot of style forecasters expect bangs to be huge this fall and winter. Whether they are full, straight-across bangs, or just side-swept bangs, they are going to be big. Bangs can be a great addition to any hairstyle. They are perfect with lobs or voluminous waves, and with any other type of hair. That is what makes them so attractive to so many people: They are versatile.

There are a lot of new shades out there for fall, regardless whether you have blonde hair, brown hair, or even red hair. With color, the main thing to remember in these cooler months is that you want a nice deep rich color for your hair. If you are looking to change up your hair color for the fall or winter, don’t worry. There is a perfect shade for you, regardless of what color your hair is. And now is the perfect time to do it. Since you are out in the sun less often, your highlights are going to fade. So, as the weather is getting cooler, try beating nature, and go ahead and add some dark hues to your hair color. Here are the top shades for fall and winter for every hair color:

For Brunettes

    1. Chocolate

A huge trend for fall and winter is to go extremely dark. chocolate hairAs the days get shorter and the temperatures get cooler, we have the desire to go warmer and darker with our hair. There are a lot of different shades of chocolate for the fall. If you already have brown hair, going to a chocolate brown color can be a great and easy way to add drama and mystery for the changing season. Look at celebrities like Mila Kunis, Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Garner for some of Hollywood’s best chocolate brunettes.

    1. Caramel

Adding caramel highlights to your hair can be a great choice for caramel hairthose with brunette locks. The golden highlights will flatter and illuminate your complexion; just make sure to add them around your face, and make them lighter as they go down. It can add depth to your hair and add a richer feel to your look. It is also good because it doesn’t require a lot of upkeep and can go with any skin tone. Check out Jennifer Lopez or Jessica Biel for examples of the caramel brown color.

    1. Chestnut

Chestnut is going to be a medium shade of chestnut hairbrown that can work for almost anyone. It works great if you already have brown locks, or if you want them. It can be a great option for blondes who want to go darker, or for ashy brunettes. This is a nice, rich brown color that is both playful and elegant. Celebrities like Kate Beckinsale, Sarah Hyland, and Jessica Alba are all known for their beautiful chestnut hair.

For Red Hairs

    1. Pumpkin Spice

Not only is pumpkin spice one of fall’s favorite flavors; pumpkin spice hairit is also a great choice in hair color. This look is perfect for people with light-colored skin, because it can bring out the golden tone in your complexion. To achieve the perfect pumpkin spice hair color, the base should be a soft coppery color with light golden blonde highlights. Make sure you don’t add too many blonde highlights, because you can quickly go from red to blonde. If you want inspiration for pumpkin spice, check out actresses Rachel McAdams and Jessica Chastain.

    1. Strawberry Blonde

Strawberry blonde can be a great transition between blonde and red. strawberry blonde hairIf you are thinking about going red, but don’t know if you want to go all the way, strawberry is a great medium that is really in style for fall and winter. While you might think of strawberry blonde as more of a summer color, when done correctly strawberry blonde should be a warm reddish-blonde hue that is strong and elegant. Check out Isla Fisher or Nicole Kidman for variations of strawberry blonde hair colors for fall.

For Blondes

    1. Platinum

Most of the time in the fall and winter months platinum hairwe have the desire to darken our hair colors. As the weather cools, we want a warmer color for our hair. But there is an exception to this rule: platinum. If you have blonde hair and are looking for a dramatic change, consider going platinum.
Platinum hair generally works best with those who have a lighter hair color, and more of a fair skin tone, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to be left out. Check out celebrities like Rita Ora or Ellie Goulding. Even Kim Kardashian dyed her famous dark locks platinum recently.

    1. Honey

If you want to switch up your blonde locks for fall, add in a bit of a warm honey tone. honey hair This hair color complements nearly every skin tone and can add depth to your hair for the cooler months. Going honey blonde is a great way to add in multiple dimensions to your hair and warm it up a bit.
Honey blonde can also be a very warm and glamorous color that works well with light and medium complexions. It is also a lot easier to maintain than a very light blonde. For honey blonde inspiration, check out celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Sienna Miller, and Natalie Portman.

    1. Blonde

Blake Lively might have been the first celebrity to coin blonde hairthe term “bronde” when she dyed her hair a perfect combination of blonde and brown earlier this summer for her latest movie role. But she hasn’t been the first celebrity to give up her blonde locks. Celebs like Cara Delevingne and Chrissy Teigen have all jumped on the bronde craze. This natural-looking trend is great for fall because it adds a warm, multi-dimensional layer to blonde hair. It is also great because of low maintenance. Bright blonde requires upkeep around every 6 weeks, while bronde can wait around 6 months.

    1. Dirty Blonde

If you aren’t ready to give up your blonde locks to the bronde or honey trends, dirty blonde hairbut still want a richer color for fall and winter, consider going for a dirty blonde color. Dirty blonde allows you to keep your blonde youthful hair, but adds a darker layer for more dimensions.
This is a great choice for natural blondes, because it won’t take much to get you to the perfect shade. It is also good because upkeep is low, and it looks good with almost any skin color. Make sure you have a good balance of lighter and darker blonde highlights to create the perfect shade of dirty blonde. If you are looking for inspiration, take a look at Gigi Hadid, Georgia May Jagger, or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Colorful Options

Purple has been a really big trend this year, and it isn’t going to go anywhere as we enter the fall and winter. The good news is that, with the different shades of purple, there is a color that can look good with any hair color. If your hair is naturally blonde, consider going with more of a pastel lavender color. If you have red or brown hair, then maybe a violet or eggplant shade of purple. For lavender inspiration look toward Kelly Osbourne. For darker shades, check out Katy Perry’s dark looks.

Pink is another color that has been big this summer, and which is going to carry over into fall and winter. Pink works best with those with a lighter natural hair color and lighter skin. The most popular shade of pink has been a light baby pink, but don’t be afraid to try something loud, like hot pink. Celebrities like Rachel McAdams and Gwen Stefani have been known to rock shades of pink hair.

Yet another different color that you should consider experimenting with this season, blue has been a big hit so far. Blue encompasses so many different shades, that there is a perfect shade for everyone. If you have lighter hair, look at a light pastel blue or a light teal. If you have darker hair or a darker skin tone, consider a darker shade of blue, like royal, or a dark teal color. Check out Demi Lovato or Kylie Jenner for blue hair inspiration.

Back to Nature this Fall at Barron’s London Salon

Did you try a new hair color trend this summer? Swim in a pool or the ocean? How about garden, go to a Braves game or have a mimosa on an outdoor patio? If you answered yes to these wonderful summer activities, or anything else that exposed your hair to the brutal sun, humidity and elements, it’s time to get back to nature with your hair care!
The hot hair ingredient everyone is talking about now is roucou oil. Never heard of it? Well here’s your chance to learn about this fantastic ingredient that does wonders for getting your hair back into shape for fall.

Lipstick Tree Pods Lipstick Tree
Pronounced ru ˈku, it’s the powerhouse behind the Davines’ Oi products that make your hair insanely vibrant and glossy. Found in the Amazon rainforest, it is derived from the fruit of the achiote, an evergreen shrub sometimes called the lipstick tree because of its pink flowers and spiny red fruit. Roucou oil is harvested from the seeds of the heart-shaped fruit.

Roucou oil stimulates the production of melanin, which is responsible for your hair’s color. Melanin can keep gray hair and frizz at bay. Permanent fix? No, but definitely great for preventative measures!
Roucou oil also contains ellagic acid and 100 times more beta carotene than carrots! This combination helps to neutralizes free radicals and have antioxidant properties that protect against UV radiation. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can directly damage cellular structural membranes, lipids, proteins, and DNA. While our bodies have a natural defense against free radicals, as we age, free radical production increases while our defenses decrease. This can result in graying and/or thinning hair. So…fighting free radicals is of utmost importance to your haircare!

Oi Collection
Roucou oil is the key ingredient in Davines’ OI All in One Milk, a multi-tasking leave-in-conditioner that can be used to comb through stubborn tangles, combat frizz, add body, and facilitate styling while protecting against heat and other stressors. It gives your hair a glossy sheen and smells gorgeous, thanks to tea and amber infusions. Roucou oil is also a major player in Davines’ OI Oil, a lightweight tonic that conditions without weighing strands down. In OI Shampoo, the ingredient teams up with rose oil for clean, super-shiny hair, while apricot butter builds on the oil’s moisturizing powers in the OI conditioner.
By popular demand, the signature scent and ingredients have been captured in a new Oi Lotion and Body Balm, yours with a purchase of three hair care products from this amazing line from Davines!

Hairspraying Hair

Back To Basics Hair At Barron’s London Salon

Every August we see the beginning of the end of summer. Kids go back to school and routine sets in. That’s why we celebrate August with a Back to Basics approach to hair! Here you will find a refresher course on the basics of hair, and a few specials to help!
Shampooing HairHow to Shampoo & Condition Your Hair: Has anyone ever told you the proper way to shampoo and condition your hair? The rule of thumb is that you shampoo your scalp and condition your ends. Use only enough shampoo to cover your scalp all over. No extra is needed for the ends! As you rinse your scalp, the shampoo glides through the rest of your hair and cleanses it. Conditioner is the opposite. Apply conditioner from your mid shaft to the ends. Any remaining on your hands can be run through the top. Do not apply extra conditioner to your scalp. This can make hair feel greasy, weighed down or oily. The natural oils from your scalp will take care of the rest.
How to Pick a Brush: Yes, there are a gazillion kinds of brushes in your stylist’s arsenal. Have you ever thought to ask why? Each brush serves a purpose for each clients’ hair. Here is a short breakdown: Round brushes give “round” volume, Which Hair Brush Is Best For Curly Hair?usually the shorter the hair, the smaller the brush needed. However, smaller brush heads also give more curl and more tension, so check in to see which size your stylist recommends based on how you style your hair. Vent brushes can also add volume, but allow air to pass through when blow drying, so this brush is best suited for a rough air dry effect with a little definition. Same rule applies, the longer the hair, the larger the brush needed. Paddle brushes are great for straight styles and are usually better for hair past the shoulders. Finally, the 7 or 9 row Denman brush. This is great for smooth straight styles as well as styling bangs without getting that 80’s pouf.

How toHairspraying Hair Pick a Hairspray: While some of you never touch the stuff, for many, hairspray is as basic a hair need as shampoo. We love hairspray and feel a final spritz before you go anywhere is a plus for any hairstyle. How do you choose which one is right for you? The question to ask yourself is how much movement do you like to have in your hair throughout the day? If you want to run your hands through it constantly and feel nothing, then a soft hold spray will control fly away and still feel like air. Most people feel like they want some hold, but still touchable, that is the medium hairspray. If your hair is unruly, stubborn and tends to frizz, then a strong hold is best.
