HAIR 101: Basic hair tips you need to know!
Before the busy back to school time is upon us, Barron’s London Salon is going Back to the Basics! From the right shampoo and conditioner, to the right appliance, and even the right hairspray, we’ll cover all the essentials you need to know to manage your hair all season long!
How to choose the right shampoo and conditioner: First things first, NO GROCERY STORE products! The major difference between “over the counter” products and professional products is the quality of ingredients and the concentration levels of harsh detergents that can actually strip color from your hair, rather than preserve it. Another easy trick to determine the right shampoo and conditioner is to consider what goes on with the rest of your body. Have oily skin? You’re hair probably tends to fall flat or become greasy looking much quicker than others. Try using a volumizing shampoo like Moroccanoil Volumizing shampoo and conditioner! Tend to have dry skin? Chances are your hair and scalp tend to get a little dry too. Try a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner like Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate Me Wash and Rinse!
How to choose the right hairspray: Hairspray typically comes in three different holds: light, medium, and strong.I’m sure you’ve guessed, strong hold gives the strongest hold, while light hold gives the weakest. Pretty obvious right? However, did you know that usually, especially within brands, it is not different ingredients that account for the hold strength. The determinant is how much hairspray the nozzle actually releases. Still can’t decide which hold is best for you? Shhhhh, a Barron’s London salon secret? We carry a hair spray that has an adjustable nozzle for all three holds for all occasions, 365 days a year. Unite’s GO365. Come and get it!
How to choose the right hair appliance: Here’s the break down
1. Heating Plate Materials: Stay away from stainless steel appliances, as they cause the most damage. Choose instead one made with either ceramic or titanium. Both infuse moisture and will give you longer lasting results.
2. Temperature Gauges: even the coarsest, curliest hair should not use an appliance exceeding 450°. If your hair is pretty normal, anywhere between 345°- 425° is your safe zone. Have fine, thin hair? Keep your appliance temperatures under 300°!!
3. most appliances are not typically intended for everyday use, even though we know some of you do! Whether you’re using your appliance everyday or not quite as often, a thermal protecting spray will help protect those beautiful tresses you and your stylist worked so hard to achieve! Try Keratin Complex’s Thermo-shine. Not only does it protect your hair from heat, but also replenishes keratin!
